Welcome to “Kaijyoukan,” a resort featuring outdoor baths with a view of the sea

Kaijyoukan is located in the town of Tara on the coast of Saga Prefecture facing the Ariake Sea, which boasts the greatest difference in water level between high and low tide in Japan. By car, this area of coastline takes 2.5 hours to reach from Fukuoka City and 1 hours to reach from Saga Airport. Our artful Japanese-style hotel offers a view of the sea, and our guest rooms featuring stylish outdoor baths are very popular.
We have been running a hotel here for a very long time in order to turn the desire of guests to “eat delicious cuisine” into reality.
We provide “Takesaki-Kani” and other seasonal seafood freshly caught from a large fish preserve located adjacent to the hotel, and we do not prepare these until directly prior to serving time. Please take your time and enjoy this fabulously fresh cuisine in the privacy of your room.

About Tara

The Ariake Sea, which boasts the greatest difference in water level between high and low tide in Japan, is a treasure chest of highly-nutritious seafood.
In Tara, where our hotel is located, you can find Takesaki-Kani, Takesaki-Kaki, laver as well as other types of seafood that are only available here.
Entering the town of Tara, you will find a number of “oyster stands” along the road where you can enjoy charcoal grilled seasonal seafood. The area is particularly bustling with tourists during the winter season.
In addition to Takesaki-Kani (crab) and Takesaki-Kaki (oysters), another area specialty is lusciously-sweet mandarin oranges.
Processed goods such as juice and jelly are also popular.
On nights when the moon is full, you can see the effects of the moon’s gravitational pull here. A “moon road” appears on the sea floor as the tide rolls out. This intersects with the lights of the town facing it and provides a fantastical view.
